Tony Fever started dj-ing back in the early 90's under the alias DJ Caine just
as dj-ing as an art form was taking off in the uk, tricks and scratching were what
it was all about back then.
He joined a crew, 'Free Da Spirit' and gained a small
following around the Bath and Somerset area. Throughout the years his musical taste
has changed to trance and hard dance, electronic music though, was always in view
even though he was a dedicated hip-hopper. 'Listening to Jean Michelle Jars' Oxygen
and Equinox albums were an education' he says. Tony's evolved some of the disciplines
from hip-hop dj-ing such as scratching and chopping beats around, he incorporates
these techniques while 'in the mix' (equipment permitting) giving an element to his
sets not many other djs would attempt.
He's influenced by the likes of Oceanlab and Matt Darey on the melodic trance side of things
through to Marco V, Scott Mac and Flutlicht at the tougher end. Combining different
styles throughout his set as it progresses is something to note.
Always searching out new tracks and keeping an eye on record labels such as Anjunabeats,
whilst not forgetting the smaller, lesser known labels is something of a past time for
Tony Fever. It's this continual vinyl hunting that ensures his dj sets are always up to
date with new music, a lot of which is pre release. Occasionally he's been known to throw
in a few hard house grooves when things really kick off on the dance giving his sets a real
underground feel. 'Keeping energy levels up and people dancing are what it's all about for
me, it gives me the biggest buzz'.
During the last two years Tony Fever has been playing out in Bristol at various venues
including Lakota (Smash 'n' Grab), Bar-I and Castros (Phantasy Rushour).
Now, picked up by Marc Vedo as a resident dj for Koolwaters, helping with
promotion and liaising with the venue are also undertaken on a monthly basis.
